CILAC 2021 launches a series of online events on science, technology, innovation and society topics in Latin America and the Caribbean.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He CILAC Organizing Committee<\/a> will offer a series of 8 virtual colloquiums, which will take place every 2nd Wednesday of each month, from 5 to 6:30 p.m.<\/strong> (Montevideo time, Uruguay), between August of this year and March of the next. They will be open and free access.<\/span><\/p>\n

Aimed at all actors linked to the political agenda of science, technology and innovation (STI) throughout the Region, the colloquiums offer the opportunity to exchange hand-to-hand and live <\/span>with prominent figures from the regional and international science environment.<\/span><\/p>\n

FIRST VIRTUAL EVENT <\/span>
\nInclusive science: Right to science<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The first colloquium<\/span>\u00a0will take place on <\/span>next August 12<\/strong><\/span> at 5 p.m. in Montevideo. Based on the definition of the Right to Science contained in Article 27 of the Declaration of Human Rights, and in the context of the current pandemic, the proposal is to debate what we should do to have more inclusive science in the region. How to democratize their participation and ensure that its benefits reach all people, especially in this context? What does it mean for science to be viewed as a human right and how can it be developed? How to reduce the scientific gap between countries? What is happening in Latin America and the Caribbean? What opportunities do we have? <\/span><\/p>\n

The panel will be made up of Ms. Lidia Brito, Director of the UNESCO Regional Science Office for Latin America and the Caribbean; Mr. Rafael Radi, President of the Academy of Sciences of Uruguay and Coordinator of the Honorary Scientific Advisory Group of Uruguay formed by the President of the Republic in response to the pandemic; and Mr. Rodrigo Uprimny, Colombian jurist specialized in constitutional law, member of the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights of the United Nations.<\/span><\/p>\n

This year 2020, unprecedented and transformative, has required the Organizing Committee to postpone the date of the In-Person Forum in Buenos Aires, agreeing as new dates of April 26 to 28, 2021. However, the definition of the priorities of an agenda in STI issues for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development that frames CILAC's action are not only synthesized in the three days when, every two years, multiple actors come to the Forum to animate its work tables; The challenges are permanent, and our Open Forum platform is continuous. This is also nourished by the regular, persistent and high-quality reflections and developments that, throughout this region, are cultivated by countless knowledge actors.<\/p>\n

In this context, it arises \u201cCILAC in motion\u201d<\/strong><\/span>, a new way of providing continuity and expanding the offer of CILAC opportunities to work on policies and actions, research and learning, with scientific rigor and ethical commitment towards sustainable development, throughout 2020 and in preparation for the in-person event in 2021. <\/span><\/p>\n
