CILAC seeks to address the issue, its challenges, and opportunities from a regional perspective, and is providing various inputs for the fourth edition of the Forum, to be held in Colombia in late 2024.<\/em><\/p>\n

The <\/span>New space economy<\/span><\/i> It is one of the central themes of the <\/span>fourth edition of the CILAC Forum<\/b><\/a><\/span> 2024, <\/b>and will be addressed through various high-level sessions, thematic sessions, and side events. During this international meeting, ministers, various authorities, young people, scientists, journalists, and science leaders from the region will gather to advance the development of public policies on science, technology, and innovation, with this being one of the key themes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Space exploration has multiple motivations, including the pursuit of knowledge, the exploitation of resources, and the development of innovative technologies to solve global problems. Furthermore, it has significant geopolitical and economic implications, symbolizing prestige and power in the international reputation of countries conducting complex missions. To meet the challenges and seize the opportunities in the New Space Economy, it is crucial to establish a long-term "innovation partnership" between investors, implementers, buyers, and other stakeholders, anticipating emerging markets by developing new technologies, services, and business models.<\/span><\/p>\n

In this context, several questions arise: What are the economic and technological challenges? How can public-private collaboration foster innovation and technological development? How can public investment in the space sector be profitable? What are the opportunities and challenges for the countries of the region?<\/span><\/p>\n

To answer these questions, and to provide a roadmap, UNESCO, through the CILAC Forum, has launched a new Policy Brief entitled <\/span>\u201cThe new space economy\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/a>, under the authorship of <\/span>Roberto Battiston<\/b>, renowned Professor of Experimental Physics at the Department of Physics at the University of Trento (Italy), and author of more than 550 articles published in international scientific journals.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In turn, in the #CienciaEnMovimiento Colloquium Cycle, which CILAC holds every month, <\/span>On Wednesday, June 26, Tatiana Ribeiro Viana (Italo-Latin American Organization), Paulo Pascuini (IIEP UBA\/CONICET) and Alberto P\u00e9rez Cassinelli (SpaceSur) will discuss the <\/span>New space economy<\/span><\/i>, moderated by Guillermo Anll\u00f3 (UNESCO). <\/span>Learn more about the meeting here.<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

"The discussions, along with the policy briefs produced within the framework of CILAC, constitute a wealth of knowledge that seeks to support the management of science and technology in Latin America and the Caribbean by sharing knowledge and experiences on the topics that comprise the science and technology public policy agenda."<\/em>says Guillermo Anll\u00f3, Coordinator of the CILAC Forum.<\/span><\/p>\n

The series of <\/span>CILAC Forum Policy Brief<\/span><\/b><\/a> It contains more than 20 documents prepared by renowned experts in their respective fields of knowledge, intended to serve as guidance to countries in the region in their search for answers to the emerging challenges of the present and future of our countries. <\/span>This series of documents, together with the virtual colloquia of the cycle <\/span>Science in motion<\/span><\/i><\/a><\/span> Held monthly, these are one of CILAC's many initiatives, which underpin the agenda of topics to be discussed at the Forum every two years. This year, the fourth edition will be held in San Andr\u00e9s Island, Colombia, from December 2 to 4, 2024. <\/span>Registration for the Forum, whether in person or virtually, is available here.<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n
