The new 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development represents a significant advance in the recognition of the contribution of Sciences, Technology and Innovation (CTI) for sustainable development. In this sense, CILAC 2018 will be able to contribute to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda by generating spaces for discussion on strategies to develop a regional plan to strengthen the scientific and technological capacities of the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.
Likewise, it will contribute to the discussion about the design of the most effective policies, based on the best available knowledge, including the diversity of local and indigenous knowledge systems.
CILAC 2018 will have a comprehensive approach to critical issues for the region, such as climate change, water security, disaster and climate risk management, biodiversity, ecosystems and biosphere reserves.
Finally, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, diary "of the people, by the people and for the people”, requires that the CILAC promote schemes and instruments that contribute to carrying out high-quality research, installing reference standards, and disseminating key knowledge for sustainable development.
