Una de las transformaciones m\u00e1s profundas de la humanidad naci\u00f3 en la cola de una fotocopiadora<\/a> un d\u00eda de 1984, en la Escuela Polit\u00e9cnica de Palaiseau, cerca de Par\u00eds. El matem\u00e1tico Yves Meyer<\/a> estaba esperando a que un colega imprimiese un estudio sobre la descomposici\u00f3n de las se\u00f1ales s\u00edsmicas registradas en los terremotos. Asombrado por las posibles implicaciones, Meyer compr\u00f3 inmediatamente un billete de tren para ir a Marsella a hablar con los autores, entre ellos la matem\u00e1tica belga Ingrid Daubechies<\/a>. Juntos desarrollaron una teor\u00eda, la de las ond\u00edculas, que ha posibilitado fraccionar im\u00e1genes y sonidos en paquetes de informaci\u00f3n m\u00e1s sencillos que permiten su manejo.
