Or we lie under a black blanket of stars and feel infinite. The same thing also happens to us when we are in front of certain works of art.<\/p>\n<p><!-- BREAK 1 --><\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/publicatt.unicatt.it\/handle\/10807\/153855#.YFMINOaCFN0\">new study<\/a>, the first of its kind, suggests that these emotions can also emerge if we immerse ourselves in a virtual reality environment. <\/p>\n<p><!-- BREAK 2 --><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>The sublime in 360 degrees<\/h2>\n<p>According to Alice Chirico, from the Universit\u00e0 Cattolica del Sacro Cuore di Milano, Italy, and her colleagues, in the open access journal <em>PLOS ONE<\/em>, the study measured the emotional responses of 50 participants before and after watching 360\u00b0 immersive videos. <em>The starry Night<\/em> of <strong>Vincent van Gogh<\/strong> and of <strong>Saint-R\u00e9my-de-Provence<\/strong>, the natural place represented in the painting.<\/p>\n<p><!-- BREAK 3 --><\/p>\n<div class=\"article-asset-image article-asset-normal\">\n<div class=\"asset-content\">\n<div class=\"caption-img\">\n<p>  <img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"a\" class=\"centro_sinmarco\" src=\"https:\/\/i.blogs.es\/16e04a\/1920px-st-remy-de-provence_vue\/450_1000.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>    <span>Saint-R\u00e9my-de-Provence<\/span>\n   <\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>As the authors conclude: <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>By using virtual reality, we provide the first empirical contribution to the ongoing debate over whether nature or art is better at evoking the experience of the sublime.
