The CILAC Forum is holding a new colloquium with regional leaders, focusing on the new space economy. Since its launch, more than 32,000 people have participated in CILAC's #CienciaEnMovimiento series of colloquia.
Space exploration has multiple motivations, including the pursuit of knowledge, the exploitation of resources, and the development of innovative technologies to solve global problems. Furthermore, it has significant geopolitical and economic implications, symbolizing prestige and power and affecting the international reputation of countries conducting complex missions. To meet the challenges and seize the opportunities in the New Space Economy, it is crucial to establish a long-term "innovation partnership" between investors, implementers, buyers, and other stakeholders, anticipating emerging markets by developing new technologies, services, and business models.
The space sector is evolving with increased commercial interest, including the exploitation of natural resources and space tourism. Technological advances have enabled more sophisticated missions, although they face significant challenges such as astronaut health and high costs. The sustainability of space exploration depends largely on collaboration between the public and private sectors, as public investment has been crucial to the sector's development. The growing participation of private actors and innovation are driving a shift in approach, highlighting the importance of public-private collaboration to ensure exponential and sustainable growth in space activity.
What are the economic and technological challenges? How can public-private collaboration foster innovation and technological development? How can public investment in the space sector be profitable? What are the opportunities and challenges for countries in the region?
Tatiana Ribeiro Viana (Organizzazione Italo Latino Americana), Paulo Pascuini (IIEP UBA/CONICET) and Alberto Pérez Cassinelli (SpaceSur), will address these topics, moderated by Guillermo Anllo (UNESCO).
The meeting will take place on June 26 at 5 p.m. URU/ARG/BRA – 3 p.m. COL/PER, and will be broadcast live on YouTube, and also on Zoom. REGISTER HERE
