The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development represents a significant advancement in the recognition of Science´s contributions to society. All of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outline multiple challenges which can be tackled by the sciences and there is explicit mention of the role Science, Technology, and Innovation as an opportunity for the improvement and source of solutions to the problems being faced.
At the same time, advancing on the SDGs implies establishing dialogue and interaction between the multiple social actors involved, especially if the virtuous involvement of the Science, Technology, and Innovation System is to be achieved successfully. In line with UNESCO’s aims – to contribute to the building of peace, the eradication of poverty, sustainable development and intercultural dialogue through education, science, culture, communication and education – CILAC 2018 will focus on the discussion on how to generate sustainable territories.
To achieve this, the Forum will be divided into three core themes, calling upon all the actors in the region to participate in discussions and jointly explore potential the potential contributions of Science, Technology, and Innovation to the 2030 Agenda, from building sustainable cities to generating resilient behaviors and making efficient use of biological resources.
The first day will focus on the dynamics of Sustainable Cities, understood as a theoretical model and action plan that brings together in an integrated way the initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life, sustainability and efficient management of services.
The second day will be to think about the capacity for resilience and reconciliation of our territory after natural disasters or social problems that cross our region (RELAC), and explore how to be able to make the opportunity of the threat.
The third day discusses a regional strategy within the framework of the new Bioeconomy, understood as the use of biomass in an innovative way to add more value locally and generate new opportunities sustainable production.
