What is CILAC?

The Open Forum of Sciences of Latin America and the Caribbean is established as a regional space for debate and exchange, and will be organized every two years on an itinerant basis in different cities of the region. At the same time, it seeks to establish itself as a platform to define common positions around a scientific, technological and innovation agenda for sustainable development and to raise the voice of the region to the global scope of the World Science Forum.

 

A unique initiative that seeks to promote positive dialogue between science, politics and citizens for better development scenarios for our people. CILAC is a unique conference that brings together future researchers, young entrepreneurs, business and corporate leaders, visionaries and innovators, politicians, artists, designers, inventors and engineers, scientific journalists and scientific research and dissemination centers... All of them are called for the enormous challenges of our time, which demand interdisciplinary and multilateral collaboration of the entire society. Latin American and Caribbean.

The Open Science Forum has a multilateral dialogue character, with Plenary Conferences of renowned specialists from the region and the world, as well as Thematic Sessions and Parallel Events, which include Ministers, University Presidents, businessmen, scientists, researchers, innovators, representatives of international organizations and We do not govern, and other relevant actors of civil society.

Simultaneously, public spaces in Panama City are held in Open City for Science.

Decentralized Activities will be carried out to disseminate science and the connections between science, culture and society, inviting citizens to join science, technology and innovation, through culture and the arts, including theatre, dance, informative lectures, presentations and demonstrations. The program includes exhibition of letters, installation of institutional stands and carrying out technical visits for interested participants.

CILAC constitutes a plural, coerent and articulated meeting of multiple reflection activities and proposals of the Latin American region within the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.

This is why the CILAC Forum invites various actors, connecting civil society with scientists, academia, cooperation organizations, the private sector and governments of all regions to think together about the future. In this way, CILAC becomes a global event, with the participation of colleagues and organizations from all continents, which seeks to contribute to the development of a planetary strategy in favor of science for sustainable development.

Goals

The main objective of the Open Forum of Sciences of Latin America and the Caribbean is to create a dynamic and inclusive space to debate, plan and monitor among all the actors involved – government, universities, companies, researchers, social sector – scientific and technological integration of the region in the role of the Science, Technology and Innovation (CTI) system for o sustainable development of the region.

The forum offers a unique space to align the regional priorities and policies of various organizations (international and regional), both as bilateral and multilateral cooperation agencies active in science and technology, together with education and research systems. At the same time, through the Forum, we intend to significantly increase the process of gestation, development and consolidation of the Latin American and Caribbean Higher Education Space (ELACES).
