Having three vaginas, eating her siblings, incubating eggs in her mouth or being able to give birth to 2,000 specimens in a single clutch are gestation tactics that exist in the animal world. Each group of species is a world in itself and understanding their reproduction is crucial, as this is how populations are maintained in more or less hostile environments. “Controlling the mechanisms involved in reproduction allows you to control the conservation of the species and have better quality specimens,” explains Miquel Planas Oliver, from the Marine Research Institute (IIM-CSIC).
