Only 1,200 people remained: the moment when humanity almost became extinct

930,000 years ago, the human lineage was on the verge of disappearing. Our ancestors had begun to expand across the planet, they walked upright and used stone tools simple. A few millennia before there were around 100,000, not many if you look at the present, but enough to keep going in a hostile world. However, something happened, and the population collapsed to 1,200 individuals. A 98% of the entire population, missing. Then, for 117,000 years, 1,170 centuries, that small population, which could fit in a nightclub, resisted the brink of extinction. Until, little by little, 800,000 years ago, the population recovered to around 30,000 individuals.
