“The legacy of colonialism influences vulnerability to climate change”

The latest IPCC report (Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Climate Change), which focuses on the impacts and adaptation to climate change, places the region of Central and South America as one of the red spots of vulnerability to global warming. The environmental scientist Edwin Castellanos (Guatemala, 56 years old) has been in charge of coordinating precisely the section referring to this region. He is also director of Sustainable Economic Observatory of the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala warns in this telephone interview about how the poor socioeconomic situation makes populations more vulnerable to climate change.
