Half-hour classes with 15-minute breaks to ventilate the classrooms. Martin Kriegel (1975, Kiel, Germany) admits that his proposal is “controversial,” but believes it is necessary to warn of an imminent challenge: the lack of preparation of governments for the return of a school year marked by the coronavirus epidemic. Kriegel is director of the Hermann Rietschel Engineering Institute (HRI), a department of the Technical University of Berlin founded in 1885, the oldest in the world dedicated to research into ventilation, energy and environmental quality in buildings. The HRI is currently focused on studying the transmission of covid through particles suspended in the air.
