“Ten thousand years ago, there were only one million of us. In 1800, just over 200 years ago, there were already one billion of us. Fifty years ago, around 1960, there were three billion of us. Today, there are over seven billion of us. By 2050, our children and our children's children will be living on a planet inhabited by at least nine billion people. Before the end of this century, there will be at least ten billion of us. Possibly more.” In his book Ten billion, andOxford professor Stephen Emmott tried to warn us of the apocalyptic reality humanity faces if we reach that formidable number of people on Earth. But it's possible that the rate of growth will slow much sooner, and we'll never reach that dangerous number.
