First case of coronavirus infection from a mother to her child from the placenta

It was one of the extremes, and fears, that scientists had left to prove: contagion from a mother to her child before he was born. Now, doctors from a Paris hospital have published the case of a young woman sick with Covid who was admitted to the hospital in her 35th week of pregnancy. After performing a cesarean section, they took samples from both her and her son. Both tested positive. The analysis also detected the presence of the pathogen in the mother's placenta, which could have been the vehicle through which SARS-CoV-2 reached the child. The worst thing is that they observed that the newborn had abnormalities in the brain, with detectable inflammation. The best thing was that after a few days, mother and son, a boy, went home healthy.
