The earth may shake strongly again in Morocco in the next few hours. Experts from the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain (IGME) warn that a strong aftershock of magnitude between 5 and 5.5 may occur at some point during the 24 hours after the earthquake, which occurred last night with a magnitude of 6.8 and epicenter a few kilometers southwest of Marrakech, one of the country's main cities. "We must continue to monitor the area," warns Raúl Pérez López, emergency geologist at the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain (IGME). "This is not an exact science, but in theory the strongest aftershock has not yet occurred. So far, the strongest has been 4.9, and one between 5 and 5.5 may still occur. When it happens, it will hit all those already damaged buildings again,” he says.
