The First Open Science Forum of Latin America and the Caribbean (CILAC) was attended by the president of Uruguay, Tabaré Vázquez. The forum brings together authorities, experts and academics from across the region.
For three days, more than 100 activities will be carried out in the areas of scientific policies, universities for development, science, citizenship and business innovation. Dialogue between science, politics and citizenship is also sought to promote development.
One of the axes was education, in which the table on ancestral knowledge and its knowledge systems had a prominent place. The environment and climate change are also priorities in the region, although there are still no global agreements.
The voice of indigenous peoples also has to be considered in this matter. Upon completion, CILAC will prepare a document of recommendations that will be presented at the World Science Forum Jordan 2017.
