Bai Chunli, scientist and president of TWAS (The World Academy of Sciences for the advancement of science in developing countries) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, confirmed his participation as keynote speaker at the opening of the XVII National Congress of Science and Technology, organized by APANAC, which will be given within the framework of the 2nd day of CILAC.
On Tuesday, October 23, at the close of the 2nd day of the CILAC Forum to be held in Panama City this year, Dr. Bai will give a keynote lecture on the relevance of science for development.
Bai Chunli was born in Dandong, Liaoning, on September 26, 1953. His father was a primary school teacher, and he always encouraged his son to read and study. For this reason, despite having worked for four years in production or construction activities, he continued to train on his own, until he entered Peking University. Finally, he graduated in Chemistry in 1978, in 1981 he obtained a master's degree from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and in 1985 he achieved a Ph.D.
The beginning of his career as a researcher coincided with his appointment to the department of applied chemistry at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1978. Membership of this academy represents the highest level of national honors for Chinese scientists. He is currently the President of said institution, and also co-President of the Chinese Association for Science and Technology.
His research, focused on the field of microscopic nanotechnology, has been published in Chinese and English. In parallel with his scientific work, he works as a teacher at different universities in China. His career has been worthy of numerous honors and awards in the world of science.
He is also the editor of the magazine China Basic Science and has an important role in the political field, where he maintains that chemistry can intervene to improve social problems.
