From August 29 to 30, the Workshop “Towards a regional strategy for access to scientific journals” was held in Buenos Aires (Argentina).
The organization of the activity had the institutional support of UNESCO and was in charge of the Government Secretariat of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation, dependent on the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology of the Argentine Republic.
The main objective of the meeting was to establish a general regional coordination framework for journal acquisition policies and financing of the publication of articles, within the framework of the current transformations of the scientific journal system that are occurring around the world.
During it, the potential acceleration of the transition of scientific publications to open access, the policies and measures that Latin American countries have adopted for access to scientific journals, and the guidelines they hope to develop in the coming years were addressed.
Officials from Ministries and Secretariats of Science and Technology from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay participated.
