CILAC Forum together with the General Directorate of Science and Technology of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires (Argentina) commemorate November 10, making visible the positive impact that science produces on people's lives

Within the framework of World Science Day for Peace and Development, which will be held next Tuesday, November 10, the activity will take place “Conscience 2020”, an event organized by UNESCO and the Directorate of Science and Technology of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires. The campaign proposes to raise awareness and bring science and technology closer to civil society, by making visible the positive impact and contribution that these subjects generate on people and the environment, from various sustainable projects and performance areas.

A panel made up of researchers and organizations who will present their institutional perspective during the activity. In addition, there will be an opportunity to present sustainable projects through videos prepared by their own leaders or directors. The direct contribution of science to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda will also be addressed. Among the participating institutions is the Argentine Network of Gender, Science and Technology (RAGCYT), he Science and Technology Observatory of the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), among other.

The opening will be attended by the Minister of Economic Development and Production of the City of Buenos Aires, Mr. José Luis Giusti, and Ms. Lidia Brito, Director of the UNESCO Regional Science Office for Latin America and the Caribbean.

At a time when the global COVID-19 pandemic further demonstrated the fundamental role of science in addressing global challenges, the “ConCiencia” activity constitutes one more contribution from Latin America and the Caribbean to the mobilization that UNESCO, together to its partners, carry out during 2020 to commemorate this November 10.
