The Latin American and Caribbean Open Science Forum was presented in a panel on October 19, 2022, during this international scientific cooperation meeting organized by the OEI in Buenos Aires.
The CILAC Forum is a regional platform to debate, plan and monitor effective science, technology and innovation policies to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in Latin America and the Caribbean. This platform has a central forum, which takes place in different cities in the region every 2 years, as well as monthly meetings with international leaders, virtual spaces to bring science closer to the general public, and useful publications for decision makers, among others. other components.
In 2021, the third edition of the Forum in virtual format due to the pandemic. This allowed us to reach a greater number of participants from the region, becoming the most successful edition since its launch in 2016. Within the framework of CILAC 2021, and continuing the Forum's tradition of publishing a summary of what happened during each edition, the new publication is launched: CILAC 2021 Chronicles.
It is a synthetic chronicle of the notable events and debates that took place there, including the results that emerged from those rich instances of exchange. It is a document of great interest, both for those who design public policies, as well as for university, scientific, social and social communication actors.
Within the framework of the International Science and Technology Week, held in Buenos Aires and organized by the OEI (Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture), regional partner of the CILAC Forum, a panel was held to present the Forum as a regional platform and officially launch this publication.
The meeting began with authorities from UNESCO, OEI and the R+D+i Agency, who mentioned the importance of strengthening the link between governments and organizations to face changes in the world. According to UNESCO, the current challenge is “to achieve sustainable, inclusive development, at the local and global level.” Subsequently, a dissertation was made on Ibero-American science and technology through indicators.
The panel ended with the intervention of Guillermo Anllo, Regional Specialist of the UNESCO Science, Technology and Innovation Policy Program, who presented CILAC 2021 Chronicles. According to the Specialist, “The idea is to connect with the future, and to connect with the future one absolutely needs knowledge and science. That is why it is important to connect with CILAC, because it brings science and knowledge at the service of the challenges of the future, that is the message we want to convey.”
