CILAC 2018: Open Science Forum for Latin America and the Caribbean was presented at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), "contributing to society through scientific policy", held from the 15th to February 20 in Boston, Massachusetts

The annual AAAS Science and Technology Policy Meeting brings together scientific and policy communities from around the world to exchange ideas and discuss the future of science and technology.

Sandra Sharman, CILAC Public Participation and Communication Coordinator, presented to the Open Science Forum for Latin America and the Caribbean in a session titled “Start of World Conferences: Inclusion of Science and Society.” This session brought together key organizers leading leading start-up science conferences, highlighting new voices at the nexus of science and society from across five continents.

From Science Agora Tokyo and the South African Scientific Forum to EuroScience Open Forum in Toulouse, from CILAC: Open Scientific Forum for Latin America and the Caribbean and the Korean Science and Creativity Conference to the World Science Forum Jordan.

These leading events came together in a common instance to promote new pluralistic and creative spaces for collective thinking on the use of the best tools, strategies and methodology for meaningful public engagement.

Recognize that society's problems do not necessarily imply scientific solutions. The panel argued that effective dialogue, diplomacy and inclusion will contribute to scientific research.
