The science behind curling

Curling is an Olympic team sport that is practiced on an ice rink, about forty-five meters long and five meters wide, in which two teams of four players compete.

Basically curling consists of sliding a granite stone weighing about twenty kilos from one end of the track to the other, where there is a painted target. Each team must try to get the stone as close to the center as possible with each throw.

To give it more excitement, and this is where science comes into play, you can control the trajectory of the stone – after it has been thrown – by sweeping the floor of the track with energy.
