The CILAC Forum holds a new colloquium with leaders from the region, focused on open science policies in the region. Since its launch, more than 25 thousand people have been part of the colloquiums of the #CienciaEnMovimiento cycle of CILAC.

Since new information and communication technologies have facilitated access to scientific data and articles, the way of doing science began to be rethought, giving rise to what we know today as Open Science.

But how to promote the development of open science? How to regulate its mechanisms? How to guide the direction of its action? In short, what policies should be designed to ensure a framework of open science practices that contributes to reducing the digital, technological and knowledge gaps that exist between and within countries?

The emerging challenges when conceiving open science policies are multiple and complex in their plot, with logics that often seem to confront each other: financial and budgetary aspects, international law regulations combined with diversity of local realities, multiplicity of actors in the discussion table, gender equality in access to opportunities, innovative mechanisms to stimulate investment, and a long etcetera that should be discerned.

These are challenges that will be addressed in a new CILAC virtual meeting, together with Ana María Cetto (UNAM/UNESCO Global Open Science Steering Committee), and Andrea Mora Campos (Open Science policy consultant, director of La Reference), and Linda Paola Castro Monroy (Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of Colombia), with the moderation of Guillermo Anllo (UNESCO).
