Climate change constitutes a global emergency that goes beyond national borders. This is an issue that requires coordinated solutions at all levels and international cooperation to help countries move towards a low-carbon economy.
In view of meeting the goals of the Paris Agreement (COP21), it is imperative to modify the production, distribution and consumption models of energy, in order to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases, and stop them in the next twenty years. , and, within the framework of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, whose SDG 7 is aimed at “guarantee access to affordable, safe, sustainable and modern energy”, an unprecedented energy transition is required, and for this, deep technological cooperation and scientific diplomacy is necessary. . All of this requires innovative solutions that are based on scientific knowledge, combining the efforts of governments, organizations, citizens and the scientific community.
What is the contribution that science and technology systems make to the energy transition in our region? What are its challenges and potentials?
