#CILAC18 is coming! That's right, the Latin American and Caribbean Open Science Forum will be held from October 22 to 24 in Panama City, showcasing the best of science, technology and innovation. Next, you will learn about one of the many technological trends that will be present during this great event that promotes Sustainable Development in the region.

Big Data

Large volumes of data, defined as Big Data or Macrodata, allow companies, researchers and scientists the possibility of analyzing, predicting and producing more effectively than before. The amount of information stored by technological devices - which increasingly present more advanced features - allows data to be processed in real time, producing relevant information of the highest quality and generating a positive impact on society.

Big Data is seen as an opportunity to meet each of the 17 Goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, since the responsible use of it by the private sector, the public and civil society could result in an optimal analysis of the human behavior, which allows the development of solutions that contribute to a better quality of life for the most vulnerable groups. Likewise, the use of these large volumes of data may allow rapid monitoring of compliance with the Agenda's Objectives.

CILAC is a Science, Technology and Innovation Forum, so Big Data will play an important role in some of the panels framed within the themes of the Forum.

The following video, of the initiative UN World Pulse, shows some of the uses of Big Data and how it contributes to creating more inclusive and effective policies.
