about the Forum

Centered on the core concept of "Science that Resolves" for its fifth edition—and marking the 10th anniversary of the inaugural Forum—CILAC 2026 will serve as a space where governments, universities, businesses, researchers, civil society, and the media can debate, plan, and monitor the integration of science, technology, and innovation for sustainable development in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Brasilia will host this international meeting, which in turn will be accessible from around the world through a virtual platform.

University - Society Relationship
Towards a new social contract for knowledge: The transition from the traditional "University Extension" model to a paradigm of Comprehensive Engagement requires higher education to act as a central node within local innovation ecosystems. This approach focuses on democratizing access to knowledge and co-creating place-based solutions through applied research. The goal is to move beyond the "ivory tower" to establish a porous university—one capable of responding to emerging social demands and strengthening scientific citizenship through a dialogue of knowledges.
Green Innovation: Bioeconomy, Decarbonization and Energy Transition
Sustainability as a driver of systemic competitiveness: The climate emergency necessitates a reconfiguration of production structures toward low-carbon growth models. This pillar promotes the bioeconomy as a platform for adding value to natural resources through biotechnology, alongside the deployment of clean energy infrastructure. In this context, science policy must act as a catalyst for technological missions aimed at reducing reliance on fossil fuels, fostering energy sovereignty that is simultaneously environmentally responsible and economically resilient.
Regional Governance and Territorial Agendas in STI
Digital transformation and the frontiers of the scientific method: Artificial Intelligence represents not merely a technical tool, but a paradigm shift in the architecture of discovery. In the realm of R&D, AI exponentially accelerates data processing, the simulation of complex models, and the automation of experimental processes. However, this area highlights the need for "Open Science" ethical frameworks and algorithmic regulation to guarantee scientific integrity, transparency, and bias mitigation, ensuring that automation enhances—rather than replaces—critical thinking and human creativity.
