An anonymous person sent an alert message to about 40 editors of scientific journals around the world on April 12, 2022. A Spanish woman received this e-mail at 4.40 at night. It started like this: “Dear teachers, good morning. If you are receiving this message, it is an important matter.” This complainant claimed that an Indian scientist, Gunasekaran Manogaran, had set up a megafactory of fraudulent scientific studies, which were produced in series. The plot allegedly sold the authorship of these hundreds of false studies to Asian researchers, especially Indians and Chinese, eager to publish quickly to achieve a position or a promotion. The network then managed to sneak these pseudostudies into specialized journals from the main scientific publishers, such as Elsevier, Springer Nature, Wiley and MDPI. Rather than exploiting cracks in the system, they were walking a red carpet for cheaters.
