President Tabaré Vázquez announced this Wednesday that the objective of the Ibirapitá Plan is to reach the end of the year with 100,000 tablets delivered to retirees throughout the country.

The president participated in the opening of the First Science Forum of Latin America and the Caribbean. In his speech he highlighted the implementation of the plan that benefits retirees who earn less than $ 26,720.

Vázquez valued the efforts of Uruguayan society in financing the Ceibal Plan that reaches all schoolchildren and high school students in the country.

He highlighted the investment of more than US$ 100 million in prototypes and equipment, and US$ 15 million annually for the maintenance and continuity of the program.

“Plan Ceibal is much more than providing a computer and free internet connection, it is a unique educational transformation, a profound change in teaching and learning,” said the president.

“It is a great advance towards equal opportunities from childhood in access to the information and knowledge essential to integrate into society,” he added.

“I sincerely believe that Plan Ceibal is an irreversible and progressive revolution,” he concluded.
